Alexander 
Gray

Musician, Educator, 
Wind Band Conductor

Alexander Gray is a native of Poughkeepsie NY and currently the Director of Bands at Pawling High School.  Mr. Gray is responsible for the High School Band Program as well as teaching the 7th and 8th grade band. He received a B.M. at the Crane School of Music in Music Education and Clarinet Performance while earning a concentration in Jazz Studies on Saxophone. Mr.Gray is the founder and former director of the Crane Chamber Winds, and frequently conducts in the Hudson Valley region. Mr.Gray is also a regular gigging musician in the Hudson Valley, North Country and all over the tri-state area.

As an educator, Mr.Gray currently serves as a Band Director at Pawling High School and teaches a private studio for clarinet, flute, saxophone, and jazz studies. He has successfully lead elementary and secondary education students to honor bands and perfect scores at solo festivals, as well as his large ensembles to superior ratings and state and national festivals.  Mr.Gray also serves as wind and visual staff for the Arlington High School Marching Band and the Marist College Marching Red Foxes.

As a conductor, Mr. Gray actively seeks out opportunities to guest conduct as well as create new and exciting opportunities for his own school's ensembles. He has guest conducted community ensembles, most recently with the Southern Dutchess Concert Band. Mr.Gray frequently does freelance work conducting chamber groups for student recitals or composition recitals and conducts in symposiums and national competitions. Most recently, Mr.Gray was selected in the top 8 conductors in the National Band Association Young Conductor Composer Mentorship Project for 2024. Mr.Gray is the founder and former director of the Crane Chamber Winds, which is a student run ensemble at the Crane School of Music, and was the former Director of the Clarkson University Orchestra Director in the Fall of 2022.
